Go Hawkeyes!!!

Last Saturday Jason took Nash to his first Iowa Hawkeye Football game.  Unfortunately Nash came down with a cold a few days before the game but there was no way anyone was keeping this boy from going to the game.  I think one of the best parts of his day was riding the bus.

Jason woke him up around 5:30 and after he realized what was going on, he couldn't get to the bus fast enough.  He put on his Hawkeye gear and I sent along a bag of extra layers including a blanket.  I did not think to pack along a poncho and it turns out that is exactly what they all needed.  It was chilly and ended up raining on them but Nash had a great time anyway.
The Hawkeyes shut out Ball State 45 to 0.  Nash fell asleep on the bus and then slept some more once he got home.

Nolan and I stayed home in the warm, dry house and watched the game together.  Go Hawks!

Nolan is on the go!

Relaxing Sunday on the Mighty Mississippi

After a day out at the Hawkeye football game last weekend, it was time to relax on Sunday.  Nana and Papa invited us out for a boat ride so the boys and I met them at the marina.  Whitney met us there and Carolyn and the girls came along too.

(Nolan and Aunt Nini)

(Nash wanted me to take a picture of the sticks he put in the sand)

GO HAWKS!

Last Saturday Jason and I enjoyed a day out.  A LONG day out!  Whitney was kind enough to watch the boys in the morning, then Papa and Great Grandma Phyl came over for the afternoon shift.  We joined about 20 friends and neighbors for the Iowa vs Iowa State football game.  We all met at the bus around 7am and took off for Iowa City for a 2:30 kickoff.

Jason and two of our neighbors purchased a 1980something bluebird school bus last year and painted it up Hawkeye style.  It's quickly becoming quite the party bus.  The latest addition includes a new stereo system and bench style storage so we can accommodate more stuff and more people. Anyway, enough about the bus.  We had so much fun hanging out with friends and celebrating a 35 to 7 Hawkeye victory.

We rolled back into town around 9pm I think.  Even though it was a long day, I hope we get to do it again this season.  GO HAWKS!

Quotes from a 2 1/2 Year Old

"WHY?" - I thought we might have passed right by this stage already but suddenly I'm hearing this several times a day now.

"WHAT?!" - This is much cuter than "why?"  Jason or I will say something to Nash and he says this like it's the most astonishing news he's heard all day.

Another trip to Schwiebert Park

I admit it.  I'm starting to get anxiety about summer coming to an end.  I decided that since it was sunny and still in the 70s, we would take advantage of it and visit Schwiebert Park again.

This time I was a little more prepared.  I brought Nash a change of clothes and his water shoes...but I forgot a towel.  He didn't really care.

Jason met us over there after work yesterday for the first time and he was really impressed with the place.  We could really use a park like this on the IOWA side of the river!

And the gates go back up!

On Monday this week Nolan figured out how to go from his back into a sitting position.  When we put him in the crawl position he was getting SO close to getting the hang of it.  On Tuesday he had his 9 month check up.  He weighed in at 24.3 pounds putting him at the 90th percentile.  He measured 29 inches long putting him at the 75th percentile.  On a side note, Nash weighed in at 29.2 pounds.  Yep, only 5 pounds difference.

I keep reminding Nash to be nice to Nolan because it won't be long until Nolan will figure out how to whoop up on him.  It was also on Tuesday that Nolan actually crawled across the carpet.  It is now Saturday and the boy is on the go.  We took the baby gates down about a month or so ago but it looks like we need to put them back up again.
Nana started teaching Nolan to hold one finger up to say that he is "one." She was hoping that by the time December 5th rolled around, he would have it down pat.  Well, he caught on a lot faster than expected.
I think he's getting ready to show some more teeth soon too.  All of the sudden my easy going guy HATES to have his diaper changed.  He arches his back and whines and tries to escape.  I'm blaming it on teething because that's what we blame everything on.  :0)

Quotes from a 2 1/2 Year Old

"Mommy, you're my Megan and Daddy is my Jason." - Nash

Open WIDE!

Nash went to see the dentist for the first time today.  We have a brand new dentist building right on the river.   It's only been open for two weeks and they specialize in pediatric dentistry.  Nash wasn't too sure about going to see Dr. Chris today but he did so well!

He has an overbite but NO CAVITIES.  I was also concerned because Nash grinds his teeth at night.  Dr. Chris told me that about 80 percent of kids under age 4 grind their teeth.  About 20 percent of those continue to grind their teeth after age 4 and it's usually genetic.  Jason has to wear a mouth guard at night because he grinds his teeth so we'll see what happens with Nash.

Jason surprised us and showed up during Nash's appointment.  He didn't want to miss this monumental event.  He was so impressed with the building that he wants to switch dentists now.  :0)  Nash's next checkup is scheduled for March.

Nolan Jace-9 months old

Happy 9 month birthday Nolan!  I think I say this all the time but...my boys are at such a FUN age.  Part of me wishes I could freeze time with them at this age and part of me can't wait to see what they are going do next.  Nolan's tooth count remains at two.

We used the last of the frozen milk earlier this week so he is completely on formula now.  He is eating the #3 baby foods which he gagged on at first but he is getting used to the different textures now.  I have even started cutting up very small pieces of fruit for him and he loves that.  He is sleeping great at night and still taking two naps during the day.  Last week he started signing "more" and we are working on "all done."

He waves when we say good bye to someone and Nana taught him to raise his arms when she says "SO BIG!"

Most recently she taught him to scrunch up his face when she asks him if he's mad.  It's so cute.  A few weeks ago I started working on the sippy cup with him.  Last week he really figured it out but still doesn't realize he needs to tip it up to get the water out.  He is wearing 12 to 18 month clothes.  We go to the doctor next week for his 9 month checkup and I'm curious to see what he weighs now.

He is getting so close to crawling and I can tell he just wants to get up and go sometimes.  He attempts to move from sitting to all fours but can't figure out how to get over his chubby leg.  It just keeps getting in his way and frustrates him.  When we put him on all fours he is just starting to get his arms going a little bit but doesn't get very far yet.

It seems like every day we see something new from this guy.  Happy 9 month birthday Nolan Jace!

Labor Day Weekend

On Saturday all of the guys went to the first Hawkeye football game of the 2010 season.

Nash, Nolan, Whitney, Nana and I decided to pick up some Qdoba and head to the park for a picnic.

The day was sunny but a little cooler than it had been, around 70 degrees.  I had heard about a new park on the Illinois side of the river so we went to see what it was all about.  We were not disappointed!  Schwiebert Park has a really neat play area with cushioned tiles so they kids don't get hurt when they fall.

They also have an awesome water play area with fountains.

Nash ended up with soaking wet shoes, socks and pants and I ended up with awesome pictures!

While we were there we heard some go carts racing downtown.  We took a little walk and found the qualifying races for the go cart Grand Prix so we hung out and watched those for a while.  We ended the day with a bonfire around our fire pit with friends.  What a fun start to the holiday weekend!

The Greatest Show On Earth

The circus came to town this weekend so on Thursday, September 2, we went to the iWireless Center to check it out.  Nana, Whitney and Even joined Jason, Nash, Nolan and I.

It was so much fun.  Nash loved the animals the most but he thought the clown were pretty funny too.

I think the adults were just as entertained as the kids!
Two thumbs up for the circus!!!
