Post-it Notes

I'm in the process of having my blog published into a book so we have it for a keepsake.  I try to keep my blog updated well enough to highlight most major happenings in our lives.  There's just not enough room in the baby books to get it all in!  I was looking back at some pictures of Nash today and amazed at how much he has changed.  Nolan too for that matter...he is 6.5 months old and does not even look like the same child I gave birth to back in December!  I was reminded today to soak up every little moment because time goes by so quickly!  I'm so thankful that I have all of my pictures and I'm hoping this blog will help remind me of all the little things I might otherwise forget.  So, this post is just random thoughts that I don't want to miss...sorry if I'm repeating some things from past posts.
*Nolan likes to spend his time sitting up and he is getting really good at it.  Until Nash comes by and pushes him over.
*Nash has been getting lots of time outs lately.   Usually for pushing Nolan over or taking toys from Nolan or just not listening to Mommy and Daddy.  Two minutes can seem like a long time!
*Nolan drank a cold bottle for the first time today, which surprised me because he will absolutely NOT eat cold baby food.
*Nash can be SO loving one moment, then SO naughty the next moment.
*Nolan's hair was really dark at birth and now is really blonde.
*Nash talks in a high pitched voice sometimes, especially when he thinks something is cute.  He says "Nolan, you're a cute baby." or "That puppy so cute."  The other day he went poopy in the potty chair (several small poopies) and he said to Nana, "Look Nana, those poopies are so cute."
*Nash accidentally dropped his truck on Nana's little toe the other day.  Day 1 there was a small circular bruise.  Day 2 her entire toe was dark purple and swollen like a grape.  We are pretty positive it's broken.  I'd post a picture but Nana does not like her feet.
*We go to story time on Fridays at the library.  Nash gets so excited to see his friends (Jazzie and Kate. This week was extra cool because Caden, Jae and Joanah were there too!)  It's like social hour for him.
*Nolan has started sticking his feet out of his crib between the rungs.  I find him sleeping that way sometimes.  It doesn't look comfortable at all but he doesn't seem to mind it.  I think he does it on purpose.
*We usually have to lay on the floor next to Nash's toddler bed to get him to sleep at night.  He was waking up and coming into our room in the middle of the night for a while.  Lately he has been sleeping better but will occasionally come in early in the morning.  He drags his little yellow blanket and his bed blanket behind him and stands beside my bed. "Hi Mommy."
*Nash is wearing 18 month shorts and 2T shirts.  Nolan is wearing 12 to 18 month clothes.
*Nolan does not seem to like banana baby food very well.
*Nash loves the zoo and we can't leave without riding the train.  Jason and I took the boys to Wild Fest at Niabi today.  Nash did not want to leave.  I will post pictures later.
*I am amazed at Nash's memory.  We went through Eldridge the other day and passed by Valley Bank.  Nash said, "There's Nini's office."  Then he started listing off some ladies that she works with.  Today we drove past Jason's store and Nash said, "Daddy, there your office."  We drove down to the levee the other day to walk along the river.  As soon as we made the turn Nash said, "I want to see sheep and donkey."  It was the same location where the petting zoo had been during American Pickers Weekend.  He is way more observant than his mother for sure!

Beat the Heat

We decided to beat the heat by getting out the pool on Friday.  It's funny how the pool seemed so much bigger last year.  We have a bigger one boxed up in the garage but the little one was already blown up so we stuck with what was easiest.

Nash seemed to get bored with the pool pretty quickly but Nolan really loved it.  He sat in that pool and splashed and splashed until we had to go inside for lunch.

We should probably think about getting the bigger pool out next time though so Nash can actually have some space to "swim" around.

Woody and Buzz!

Nana and I took Nash to his first movie in a theater on Thursday.  Toy Story 3 was playing at the DeWitt Opera House Theatre.  (side note:  this was the theatre where I worked in High School.)  Papa watched Nolan for us because Jason had a softball game.  The movie was very cute.  Nash loved it.  He sat on Nana's lap because the seat kept folding up on him.  After 2 buckets of popcorn, 2 packages of Reese's Pieces and 2 potty breaks, we made it through the movie.  I'm not sure any other movie could have held is attention like Buzz, Woody and Jessie did.  He keeps talking about how big the garbage truck was in the movie.  Nana took some pictures so when I get a hold of her memory card, I'll post some pictures.

Quick, let's go outside!

We have had so many rainy days and severe storms around here lately.  Today the weatherman predicted storms on and off all day.  So when the sun came out, we decided to take advantage of it and head to the park really fast!  After we got bored at the park, we took a walk down by the river.
Remember Nash's loader that he loved so dearly and wanted to ride ALL the time?

Well, a couple of weeks ago it broke beyond repair.  He has asked about his loader pretty much on a daily basis since then.  We looked at some other ride on toys that he could push around be he is getting a little big for those.  So, I found a battery operated ride on toy on Amazon.com and it arrived yesterday.  After charging the battery for the required 18 hours, Nash took his Harley out for a spin today.  He doesn't quite have the hang of it yet.  He doesn't realize that he can turn the handlebars to steer it.  He rides it in circles or until he crashes into something then he gets off and tells me it needs a new battery.  I reassure him that the battery if fine but he insists it needs a new battery and won't get back on it for a while.  Then he gets back on and starts all over again.  I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon!

Happy Father's Day Daddy!

On Sunday we celebrated all of the wonderful father's in our lives.  Our day started with the boys and I making breakfast in bed for Jason.  I have to show a picture because I'm so proud of that omelette.  I've never had an omelette turn out looking as good as it tasted.  Anyway, we all sat on the bed and chatted while Daddy ate his breakfast.  We were all still getting over our colds so we decided not to go to church and keep our germs to ourselves.

We don't mind sharing germs with our family apparently because we were invited up to my parents' house in Grand Mound for lunch...so we packed up and headed out.  Nana, Papa, Great Grandma Phyl, Uncle Will, Aunt Daniele, Aunt Nini and Uncle Eggroll were all there too!  We ate lunch and played bocce ball.  We also had some fun with a stomp rocket that Nini and Eggroll brought.

We are easily entertained.
Papa got a new fishing net and some new fishing lures for Father's Day.

We wanted to go out on the river but the weatherman said there may be storms so we decided not to.  Turned out to be a perfect day for boating...maybe next weekend!
We love you Daddy!  Love, Nash and Nolan

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

                                                    (Me, Nash, Nolan, and Jason)

The stars all aligned on Thursday and we were able to make it to our first River Bandits baseball game of the season.  We were all feeling pretty good and the rain held off so we were able to have a little summer fun.
                                                                (Nash and Daddy)
Nash had a great time of course, but wanted to be up and running around after a few innings.
                                                        (Nana, Papa, and Nolan)
Nolan was entertained by the game and the crowd.  He cashed out in Nana's arms the last few innings but woke up in time to see a few fireworks after the game.
                                                               (Aunt Nini and Nolan)
We can't wait for more summertime fun!!!

The cold bug strikes again!

Need I say more?  Probably not, but I will anyway.  Actually, we have managed to stay pretty healthy for quite a while so I guess I should be thankful.  I got home from work last Thursday and Nana was rocking Nash.  She said he felt warm and she didn't think he felt good.  As soon as I picked him up he started throwing up.  Not a lot but enough to scare him.  It's the first time he's ever thrown up other than spitting up as a baby.  He had a fever for a day then the stuffy head and runny nose set in.  It's been working it's way around, picking us off one by one ever since then.  Nana got it next.  Then Jason.  Then Nolan.  Now me.  I think Nini and Eggroll also picked it up somewhere along the way. Nolan luckily just has a runny, snotty nose.  No fever.  I think Nash is finally getting over his.  The runny nose will probably stick around a while.  Jason is powering through his, still trying to go 100 miles an hour despite not feeling 100 percent.  I thought I could sneak under the radar like I did last time but no such luck.  It started in the middle of the week for me but by Friday morning, game over!  It's now a full blown head cold.  You know it's bad when a glass of wine doesn't even sound good.  :0(

Twinkle Twinkle

I wish it was easier to post video on here because I have so many cute ones!  I took one the other day of Nash trying to play hopscotch and saying the numbers as he went (except 1,2,3 kept repeating.)  He is quite the jumper these days!  I have another one of him whining at the table because he wants to go outside. He would probably spend 24/7 outside if we let him.  And then there are the many videos I have of Nash singing.  He can sing "Twinkle Twinkle," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" all by himself.  He still needs a little help to get through the entire alphabet song but it's definitely recognizable.  He does actions to the first two which is so cute.  When he's done singing he claps and yells "YAAAAAAAAAAAY!" at the top of his lungs.  I love it.
We ventured out to the new Incredible Pizza Company last weekend.  The four of us were joined by Nana, Papa, Aunt Daniele, and Uncle Will.  What a zoo!  The place was packed.  The food was pretty good and Nash had a great time playing games and riding rides.  He was getting droopy eyes by 8pm which is early for him!

Happy 6 month birthday Nolan Jace!!!

Nolan Jace is 6 months old today.  He had a checkup on Friday and weighed 21 pounds 7 oz (97th percentile) and was 26 inches long (30th percentile).  He had three shots which always hurts me as much as it does him I think.  Ugh!  "Porkchop," as I affectionately call him, is doing great.  He is able to roll from front to back and back to front but is still choosing not to roll very often.  Sitting up seems to suit him much better!  The past week he has been more and more steady.  I set the boppy behind him because he eventually tips over but he sits up for several minutes sometimes.  He seems to love it because he can keep a better eye on Nash that way.

He is still VERY smiley and most people say he looks just like his daddy.  (Although lately a few people have said he looks like me!?)  Tonight Nolan laughed like I have never heard him laugh before.  It made me laugh which made him laugh even harder.  So far no teeth have popped through but the doctor said it doesn't look like it should be too long.  He has been a little fussy lately so I think his teeth are bothering him a bit.  Tylenol seems to do the trick.  He likes his baby cereal.  Peas, sweet potatoes and squash seem to be his favorite veggies...I can tell because he doesn't blow bubbles into them.  He swallows them right down.  The other day he said "dadadadada."  As a rule he is a fairly quiet guy but lately has been a little more chatty.  He loves to splash in the tub.  Lately he has started to show signs of separation anxiety.  He does not like it when we walk away from him.  We are blessed with a very happy, healthy six month old.  We love you to the moon and back, Nolan Jace!

Memorial Day Weekend

On Saturday evening the boys and I went to Evan's house for a BBQ.  Nash decided to go home with Nana so Nolan and I were home alone.  Sunday morning Nolan and I went to church then headed out to Nana and Papa's house.  Papa had been in Canada fishing and got home late Saturday night.  We were going to try to take the boat out on Sunday but couldn't find anyone to get it out of storage for us.  We hung out on Sunday with Nana, Papa, Great Grandma Phyl, Whitney and Evan.  Nash "ran" through the sprinkler for the first time.

On Monday Nana, Grandma Phyl, Nash, Nolan and I walked up to the Grand Mound Cemetary for the Memorial Day Service.
Nash also spent some time experimenting with sidewalk chalk...in a sunhat  :0)

We had a great weekend.  And we finally got to pick Jason up at the airport on Tuesday!  He had a great time with his college buddies in Montana but was really excited to be home again too.
