Project Crossroads
Our poor garden has been SO neglected. Despite the weeds being taller than the corn, we have been what we would consider successful first year farmers. We had a descent corn crop although as far as taste goes, it's average in my opinion.
We are seeing a few pumpkins and squash. We have picked plenty of cucumbers and there are tons more that need a little more time to reach their full potential. I have pictures on my phone and will post when I get a chance. Unfortunately we did not see any signs of brussel sprouts (or maybe thats fortunate if you ask me). No signs of watermelon. The sugar snap peas were all dried up before we got to them. I think a few of our sweet potato plants made it but I need to research when we can start digging for those guys. So as I'm writing it's looking like we had a rough go of it but we are still going to consider this year successful thanks to the cucumbers.

Project "Crossroads"
One of the things I wanted to plant in the garden this year was sweet potatoes. We were at the store looking for those darn seeds and could not find them anywhere. Turns out, they don't grow from seeds silly! You either have to grow your own slips or buy them on the internet. This is how our science experiment started. We first cut a few sweet potatoes in half and set them in water just like the picture on the internet. After a few weeks and some patience, this is what we ended up with.
It actually worked! We went back out to the farm this weekend to check on the garden and plant the sweet potatoes. We were pleasantly surprised to see a few corn plants coming up and the vegetables seem to be doing great!
We feel blessed to have this land and the opportunity to work on this family project together. We hope to have plenty of fruits and veggies to share with our friends and neighbors.

Project "Crossroads"
We have some land not too far away and this year we decided to try our hands at farming. OK, it's more like gardening, but its a huge garden so we feel like farmers. We've never had a garden before. A few weeks ago we went out to "the farm" and Jason tilled up a 28X70 foot area.
Last week, it finally dried out enough that we could get the seeds into the ground. Jason and I planted about 500 sweet corn kernels by hand. When that was done I wanted to call it a day. Thank goodness Grama Jo and Nana showed up to give us our second wind. They are the reason the watermelon, cucumbers, peppers, sugar snap peas, pumpkins, squash, and brussel sprouts also got planted. And we even got the electric fence up and running to keep the coyotes and raccoons at bay.
Bring on the rain!!!
